Languages scholarships

Languages scholarships from the British Council are an alternative option to bursaries and are only awarded to the most gifted language trainees. You’ll be guaranteed £27,500 to help towards your training year – that’s £2,500 more than a bursary. You’ll also receive additional support not available to trainees receiving a bursary.

Eligibility

To apply for these prestigious scholarships, you’ll need to be training to teach French, German or Spanish on an eligible teacher training course in England for September 2017.

Before applying, you’ll need to establish if you’re eligible:

  • you should have a minimum of a 2:1, or be predicated to achieve this; candidates with a 2:2, (or predicated) may also be considered if you can demonstrate significant knowledge
  • or have a relevant PhD or Master’s degree or recognised equivalent
