Please note applications for a languages scholarship have now closed for September 2018. If you apply for teacher training for this September, you could still be eligible for a £26,000 tax-free bursary. Further information on scholarships programmes that commence in September 2019 will be released later in the autumn term, so please continue to check this page.
Languages scholarships from the British Council are an alternative option to bursaries and are only awarded to the most gifted language trainees. You’ll be guaranteed £28,000 to help towards your training year – that’s £2,000 more than a bursary. You’ll also receive additional support not available to trainees receiving a bursary.
To apply for these prestigious scholarships, you’ll need to be training to teach French, German or Spanish on an eligible teacher training course in England for September 2018.
Before applying, you’ll need to establish if you’re eligible:
- you should have a minimum of a 2:1, or be predicated to achieve this; candidates with a 2:2, (or predicated) may also be considered if you can demonstrate significant knowledge
- or have a relevant PhD or Master’s degree or recognised equivalent
