Applications for a languages scholarship will open on 13 January 2020.
Languages scholarships from the British Council are an alternative option to bursaries and are only awarded to the most gifted language trainees. You’ll be guaranteed £28,000 to help towards your training year – that’s £2,000 more than a bursary. If you're eligible for a scholarship, you could also receive early-career payments totalling £6,000 once in teaching - that's a total of £34,000 to teach languages. You’ll also receive additional support not available to trainees receiving a bursary.
To apply for these prestigious scholarships, you’ll need to be training to teach French, German or Spanish on an eligible teacher training course in England.
Before applying, you’ll need to establish if you’re eligible:
- you should have a minimum of a 2:1, or be predicted to achieve this; candidates with a 2:2, (or predicted) may also be considered if you can demonstrate significant knowledge
- or have a relevant PhD or Master’s degree or recognised equivalent
