1. Check your qualifications

The minimum requirement for teacher training is a degree and a GCSE grade C or equivalent in maths and English (and science, for primary trainees). If you don’t have the required GCSEs, some schools and universities may offer you the chance to sit an equivalency test.

2. Find out about the financial support available

Tax-free bursaries and scholarships are available while you train to teach, with the amount you receive being dependent on the subject you teach and your degree classification.

You could also be eligible to receive a tuition fee loan and a maintenance loan from Student Finance England.

3. Arrange school experience

Book your school experience with our School Experience Programme – getting some experience will help you to decide whether teaching is right for you. It will also strengthen your application and prepare you for potential interviews.

4. Choose a training route to suit you

5. Submit your application

Once you're ready, you can apply through UCAS Teacher Training. To apply you’ll need an engaging personal statement, details of relevant school or work experience, and two references. Once you’ve submitted your application, you’ll also need to book and pass your skills tests and prepare for interviews you’re invited to attend.
