Train and teach in Blackpool
Not only could you receive a tax-free bursary of £26,000 to train as a teacher. You’ll be in demand by schools in Blackpool, which will provide plenty of opportunities for career progression. Richard, a physics teacher who has had a varied career spanning the army to IT executive, explains why he chose to change career to now teaching physics at Hodgson Academy. In addition, why in particular he picked Blackpool to train and teach.
“I firmly believe teaching has provided me the opportunity to make a tangible and significant difference, to enable students to be the very best. In a way, I feel like becoming a teacher has always been my passion and destiny and who am I to wrestle with destiny!”
“I was born in London but frequently visited the Fylde coast and always enjoyed the experience. When I decided to become a teacher, it was natural that I wanted to train and teach in Blackpool. From a teaching perspective, there are a wide variety and number of schools and this variety gives me real choices as my career progresses.”
I’ve also been fortunate enough to have secured a permanent position quickly after my teacher training year – this is the same school I did my school experience with via the School Experience Programme. I’m already aware of plans that are in my place to manage my career, which is most gratifying.
“For me, Blackpool ticks all the boxes as it offers the perfect combination of rural and city life. On a practical level, Blackpool’s location is great. I’m within an hour’s drive of Manchester (and its international airport), Liverpool and the Lake District. There are excellent theatres, music concerts, exhibition venues and tourist attractions. I personally enjoy my early morning runs along the promenade, as well as the wide variety of quality restaurants and pubs in which to relax and socialise.”
