Prepare

The key to a successful application is effective preparation. This short summary will give you an idea of the things you can do to get prepared before applying. Remember you can also tick off these steps with our interactive checklist, which is available exclusively to candidates who register with us. If you’re a non-UK EU national, read our helpful summary on preparing for teaching - you could receive a tax-free bursary of £25k to train as a teacher.

If you’re already prepared and ready to start your application, go directly to UCAS Teacher Training to begin your application. To maximise your chances of success, use all three of your options when you apply and choose a mixture of university-led and school-led courses. You can then make a final decision based on your interview experience as to which course is right for you.

Consider attending an event

Information events are a great chance to meet local schools and universities who provide teacher training. You’ll not only have the opportunity to receive personalised advice and tips, but this is also the time to ask the providers any questions about their individual courses, their requirements and availability.

Arrange some school experience

Most training providers will be looking at your application to see if you’ve completed some experience, so it’s an important part of your application. Spending time in schools shadowing teachers will also help you to make an informed decision about teaching as a career. It’s an opportunity to make a great impression, as many schools recruit potential applicants from school experience days. We can help you gain school experience via our School Experience Programme.
