Funding for training to teach primary

As a primary trainee, there are two types of funding available if you’re on a non-salaried teacher training course. Depending on your circumstances, you could receive both. Alternatively, you could earn a salary while you train.

1. Tuition Fee Loan and Maintenance Loan

To help fund your training and cover tuition fees, you could receive Tuition Fee Loan and Maintenance Loan, which is up to:

  • £9,250 Tuition Fee Loan to pay for your course
  • £11,354 Maintenance Loan to pay living costs

2. Additional financial support

If you have children or a disability, extra funding is available. For instance, you could get:

Earn a salary while you train

Alternatively, you could earn a salary with School Direct (salaried), Postgraduate Teaching Apprenticeships or Teach First.
