Accelerated courses

If you’re interested in qualifying to be a teacher in two terms, you can now do that on an accelerated course. To support your training you could access a tax-free bursary or scholarship. Alternatively, you could earn a salary on School Direct (salaried).

Accelerated courses offer a full-time intensive training option for highly experienced and skilled individuals capable of achieving qualified teacher status over a shorter period than the standard one year. Completing an accelerated course will typically take two terms, meaning you could secure a teaching job sooner than on other programmes.

If you’re interested in training on an accelerated course, we recommend contacting the schools directly before applying.

The providers offering accelerated courses in maths and physics are:

You can find these courses on UCAS Teacher Training by selecting ‘mathematics (abridged)’ or ‘physics (abridged)’ in the subject field.

Now Teach also offers accelerated courses in modern foreign languages, biology and chemistry.

You can find Now Teach courses on UCAS Teacher Training by using the ‘search for a training provider’ field, typing ‘ARK’ and selecting ‘ARK Teacher Training, 65 Kingsway, Holborn, London, WC2B 6TD (1CS).’ You can then select your subject choice with the suffix ‘Now Teach’.

Not sure if this is the route for you?

You could also take the standard approach to training on a one-year school-led or university-led programme. Alternatively, you could qualify as a teacher in two years on a part-time course.
